Plans for an artificial football pitch look set to be approved by Stoke-on-Trent City Council.
The application, submitted by the Port Vale FC Foundation, would replace one of the existing grass pitches at Bradeley Football Centre in Chell Heath with a 3G artificial turf pitch.
If the plan is approved, the new pitch would also be accompanied by fencing, six new 14m high floodlights and extended parking.
Councillors will discuss the application at next week's planning committee meeting, with a report from council officers recommending it be approved.
"Whilst the proposed development would result in the 'loss' of an existing grass playing pitch which conflicts with the general presumptions of both national and local policy, it is to be replaced by a new purpose-built sports provision," the report said.
"The new facility will be available to the community whilst also fulfilling an objectively assessed need in the North of the city for an all-weather training pitch."
The report also explains the new facility is intended to cater for women's football and those with disabilities as part of the wider approach by Port Vale FC to increase diversity in the sport.
The planning application stated: "The proposed facility has the capacity to serve Bradeley and the surrounding areas of Stoke-on-Trent with a substantial catchment population and significant unmet demands for a contemporary all-weather sports facility.
"This project will deliver genuine benefits in terms of sports engagement and has the ability to enhance health and wellbeing.
"As such, the proposed sports facility will serve to further enhance the excellent sporting offer that the Centre provides to the local community."
The council will decide whether to grant planning permission for the new football pitch at a meeting next Wednesday (20 November).
