Motorists across Stoke-on-Trent are being urged to take extra care as the temperature plummets with many areas seeing heavy snow.

A yellow weather warning for snow and ice is in place across Stoke which could make driving difficult.

Staffordshire County Council are asking drivers to do their bit by allowing extra time for journeys and to drive according to the conditions.

The county's 40-plus gritters have been in action over the last few days to help keep the roads moving.

David Williams, Cabinet Member for Highways and Transport at Staffordshire County Council, said: "With freezing temperatures expected to be with us for a while yet, along with a chance of sleet and snow showers, crews will be out gritting once again tonight.

"Dealing with winter is a team effort and while our crews play their part in helping keep the county on the move, it's also important that drivers do their bit too.

"Regardless of whether a road has been drifted, drivers need to slow down, take extra care, and allow more time for their journeys."
