Man taken to hospital with 'serious' head injury after Stoke town centre attack

A man has been hospitalised with a suspected 'serious' head injury after he was attacked in Stoke town centre this morning (29 June).

Staffordshire Police and paramedics from the West Midlands Ambulance Service were alerted to the incident at around 6am following reports that there was an injured man in the street.

The man was taken to the Royal Stoke with a "suspected serious head injury" and is said to be in a stable condition.

A police response on Sunday morning saw a large police cordon in place in the town centre with Campbell Place closed and the adjoining Church Street taped off.

No arrests have been made and an investigation is now underway. The force has launched an appeal to track down anyone who may have seen what happened.

A spokesperson for Staffordshire Police said: "We are appealing for witnesses to come forward after a man was assaulted in the street in Stoke-on-Trent earlier today.

"We were called by colleagues from West Midlands Ambulance Service at 6am on Sunday (29 June) to Church Street in Stoke-on-Trent following reports of an injured man in the street.

"A man was taken to hospital by ambulance with a suspected serious head injury. He is in a stable condition in hospital.

"Officers are conducting inquiries locally and remain at the scene while an investigation is underway."

Anyone who has relevant information, saw what happened or has CCTV footage is asked to contact Staffordshire Police on 101 quoting incident number 201 of 29 June.
