A 21-year-old has been jailed after a man was stabbed in Stoke-on-Trent.
Mongameli Nyathi, of Featherstone, was sentenced to four years in prison at Stoke-on-Trent Crown Court on Friday (27 February) after he pleaded guilty to wounding / inflicting grievous bodily harm without intent.
It comes after the victim, a man in his 40s, got into a car in Hanley alongside Nyathi and another man, on 23 October 2024.
Staffordshire Police explained that an argument broke out between the men and the victim was stabbed in the cheek.
He then fled the car, leaving his phone and £180 in cash behind, and entered a petrol station on Town Road, Hanley, where he sought help.
Detective Constable Prince Affui, of CID north, said: "Despite Nyathi initially refusing to tell us what happened, our investigation identified him as the man responsible for this spontaneous and violent attack.
"Thankfully, the victim was able to leave the car and seek medical help in a nearby petrol station, but we do not underestimate the impact that this attack has had on him.
"We remain committed to protecting victims of violence in Stoke-on-Trent and wider Staffordshire."
The car involved was later found burnt out in Sneyd Green.
Following an investigation, Nyathi was arrested and despite answering 'no comment' to all questions, he later admitted the offence in court.
