A man who punched and strangled his mother during a domestic incident in Stoke-on-Trent has been jailed.
Colin Hargreaves, 37, of no fixed address, was sentenced to two-years-and-two-months in prison at Stoke-on-Trent Crown Court on Wednesday 14 January after he was found guilty following a trial of intentional strangulation.
He pleaded guilty to possessing a controlled drug of class A (cocaine), possessing a controlled drug of class B (cannabis), assault by beating, assaulting a constable in execution of duty and criminal damage to property valued under £5,000.
Staffordshire Police explained that officers were called to the victim's home in Goldenhill in August last year when the domestic incident was reported.
Hargreaves punched her in the face and put his hands around her throat. He also ripped a television off the wall and damaged a bedroom door.
When the victim gave him £250, Hargreaves left the house.
In September last year, officers spotted Hargreaves in Milton.
Staffordshire Police said he acted aggressively against the officer and was arrested at the scene.
A spokesperson for Staffordshire Police said: "We will continue to take robust action against those responsible for violence and domestic abuse across Staffordshire, working to support victims and to deliver positive outcomes through the criminal justice system.
