Man jailed after assaulting shop staff and stealing nearly £1k-worth of products

A man has been jailed after going on a three-day stealing spree in Stoke-on-Trent.
Michael Dunn, 46, from Burslem stole nearly £1,000-worth of goods from businesses in Sandyford and Tunstall and he's been sentenced to eight months in prison.
Dunn stole around £380-worth of products from the BP garage in Sandyford on 31 May before heading to Savers on Tunstall High Street on 2 June to steal £450-worth of suncream and moisturiser.
The 46-year-old then targeted the Tesco Extra store in Sandyford on 3 June where he physically and verbally assaulted the staff before making off with £120-worth of stationery.
He pleaded guilty to four counts of theft from a shop and two counts of assault by beating at North Staffordshire Justice Centre.
PC Warren Dooley, from our Stoke-on-Trent North local policing team said: "We do not underestimate the effect that theft has on local businesses and I am pleased that we have been able to secure this result against Dunn.
"I hope this sentencing sends a strong message to others committing offences against businesses in our city – we will take action."
