A man has admitted raping and attempting to rape a woman in Stoke-on-Trent and he is due to be sentenced in April.

Lukasz Wesolowski, 42, from Kent, pleaded guilty to one count of rape and one count of attempted rape at Stoke-on-Trent Crown Court on Monday 19 February.

Detective Constable Jayne Green, from the Rape and Serious Sexual Offences Team, said: "Firstly I would like to commend the victim for the courage and bravery she has shown throughout this case.

"I know that being faced with giving evidence in court can be a daunting prospect, but thanks to her continued bravery and the evidence gathered throughout the investigation, the defendant has accepted his actions in relation to these serious offences.

"I hope that this conviction can provide reassurance and act as a reminder to anyone suffering the effects and impact of sexual abuse, that we will be committed to supporting victims and securing justice in convicting offenders such as Wesolowski."
