A man has been arrested on suspicion of multiple offences after a woman was injured in a collision and a car was found on fire in North Staffordshire.

Staffordshire Police was called at 9.30am yesterday (Tuesday 29 September), to a property off Vicarage Road in Leek, following reports of a domestic incident which resulted in a car being on fire.

Officers attended alongside Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service, who put the fire out.

The police force said a suspect made off in a vehicle before they arrived.

A crash was then reported on Basford Lane in Cheddleton at around 1.30pm.

A spokesperson for Staffordshire Police said: "Two vehicles were involved.

"One driver, a woman, was taken to hospital by a relative.

"A man, the driver of the other vehicle, left the scene on foot following the collision. The driver of this vehicle was believed to be involved in the previous incident."

The road was closed for officers to carry out a search of a nearby wooded area while recovery of the vehicles was arranged.

Local schools were advised to close while officers attended the scene.

The National Police Air Service also sent a drone to assist in the search.

A man was then arrested on Fountain Street in Leek.

Staffordshire Police has confirmed that a 34-year-old man, from the Cheadle area, was arrested on suspicion of arson and drug and drink driving.

In a statement made today (30 September) Staffordshire Police said he remains in custody while inquiries continue.
