Man arrested after shop broken into overnight in Stoke-on-Trent

A man has been arrested after a shop was broken into overnight in Stoke-on-Trent.

Police were called to Morrisons Daily, Newcastle Street, Middleport, at around 2.25am this morning (5 December).

The window had been smashed and items had been taken from inside. 

A man was spotted with a large bag near the back of the shop. Wine and chocolates were found on him during a search. 

He tried to run away but was caught by officers off Malkin Way in a bush. 

A 30-year-old man, from Stoke-on-Trent, has been arrested on suspicion of burglary. He remains in custody.
