Man arrested after cannabis growing equipment found following Burslem fire

A man has been arrested after cannabis growing equipment was found following the big fire in Burslem this week.

Emergency services were called at 12.42pm on Tuesday (21 January) to a business premises on Waterloo Road in Stoke-on-Trent following reports of a fire.

Police closed off Waterloo Road and Mayer Bank while firefighters attended the scene with paramedics.

Three people were rescued from inside by fire crews.

Police found the remains of cannabis growing equipment inside the building (Jordan Edwards).

The cause of the fire is still being investigated today (Thursday 23 January).

A search of the inside of the building uncovered the remains of cannabis growing equipment. No plants were found inside.

A 58-year-old man, from Stoke-on-Trent, has been arrested on suspicion of arson and cultivating a cannabis plant.

He has since been released under investigation while enquiries continue.
