Man and woman from Stoke-on-Trent die in A500 crash

A man and a woman from Stoke-on-Trent died in a crash on the A500 near Crewe, police have confirmed.

Cheshire Police today confirmed the driver, a 76-year-old man, and the passenger, a 63-year-old woman, both from Stoke-on-Trent were pronounced dead at the scene.

Road closures remain between the M6 junction 16 and Meremoor Moss Roundabout at Weston and motorists are being advised to avoid the area.

A Cheshire Police spokesperson told Stoke Nub News: "At 6.30pm on Saturday 15 February, police were called to reports of a serious collision on the A500 near Crewe.

"Officers attended and found that the collision involved a white Ford Kuga and a HGV.

"The driver of the Ford, a 76-year-old man, and a passenger in the vehicle, a 63-year-old woman, both of the Stoke-On-Trent area, were sadly pronounced dead at the scene. Their next of kin have been informed and are being supported by specialist officers.

"Road closures remain in place between the M6 junction 16 and Meremoor Moss Roundabout at Weston while Highways make the area safe. Delays are to be expected and motorists are advised to avoid the area."

Officers are investigating the circumstances leading up to the collision and anyone with any information in relation to the incident is asked to contact Cheshire Police via the website, or call 101 quoting IML 2028192.
