Longton Post Office is planning to move to a new location, with a proposal to relocate the branch to the former Barclays Bank.

The Post Office aims to transfer the business to the empty former bank building, on The Strand, which will undergo a full refurbishment.

The current Post Office in the town is located on Bennett Precinct at the Longton Exchange Shopping Centre and the proposed move is "a commercial decision of the Postmaster," according to the Post Office.

Of the plans, the Post Office say: "The main entrance of the proposed premises would have a wide door and steps and grabrails at the entrance.

"A second entrance is proposed on the side of the premises, featuring a wide automatic door with level access to ensure ease of entry.

"Upon entering, an internal ramp would provide access to the retail area within the premises, subject to planning permission."

The Barclays bank in Longton closed in 2022, leaving the branch in Hanley as the last remaining Barclays in the city.

It is expected the new Post Office branch will continue to operate within the current opening hours and will sell the same range of products.

Consultation for the relocation will close on 18 April. The Post Office say customers can share their views during the consultation online at postofficeviews.co.uk with the branch code 016238
