A local midwife has been recognised with an international award after going 'above and beyond' to support a patient and their family.

Jude Davies, lead professional midwifery advocate at University Hospitals of North Midlands NHS Trust (UHNM), was nominated for a DAISY Award by a patient who shared how her care had a "life-changing impact" during a particularly challenging time.

In her nomination, the patient described Jude as "an absolute hero", praising her for providing consistent emotional support, reassurance and advocacy throughout pregnancy and after birth.

She said: "I couldn't have done this without her. Jude was always there, always supportive and helped me through some incredibly difficult moments.

"She made sure I felt listened to, safe and cared for every step of the way. She went above and beyond for me and my family, and I will never forget the difference she made to our lives."

The nomination also described how Jude supported the patient through several hospital admissions and helped her feel calm and reassured during her delivery.

The DAISY Award is an international recognition programme that celebrates nurses and midwives who demonstrate exceptional compassion, kindness and professionalism, and who make a meaningful difference to patients and their families.

Speaking after receiving the award, Jude said: "I'm really happy to receive this award. For me, it's about doing what I always aim to do, making sure women and their families feel listened to, supported and cared for.

"It means a lot to be recognised in this way, especially knowing what the Daisy Award represents. I feel very proud as a midwife to be part of this."

The award was presented by Ann-Marie Riley, chief nurse at UHNM which runs Royal Stoke University Hospital and County Hospital, Stafford.

She said: "The Daisy Award recognises extraordinary nurses and midwives, and Jude really shows what that looks like in practice.

"It was incredibly moving to hear about the difference she made. Her compassion, dedication and commitment to going the extra mile really stood out and this is exactly the kind of care we want every patient to receive."

UHNM are now encouraging patients, families and members of the public to say thank you to the nurses and midwives who made a real difference to their care.

To nominate a nurse or midwife who showed exceptional compassion, kindness or went above and beyond for a Daisy Award, share your story online on the UHNM website.
