Volunteers and employees at a local housing and support provider helped to clean up a Stoke-on-Trent neighbourhood.

Stoke-on-Trent based Honeycomb Group brought colleagues together for a Community Day to improve an area in Tunstall after locals highlighted concerns about litter, fly-tipping and overgrown communal spaces.

The team focused on Madison Gardens and Churchbank Terrace, which are Staffs Housing's communities and part of Honeycomb Group, before litter picking in the surrounding public streets.

Estates Team Leader, Dan kemp, who organised the initiative said: "Our customers told us there were areas of the community that needed attention, so we wanted to respond.

"Community Day gave colleagues from across the organisation the opportunity to work alongside one another, improve the neighbourhood and spend valuable time talking to customers. Seeing the difference it made and hearing how much it meant to local people made the day incredibly worthwhile."

The day saw teams cut back an overgrown tree that had begun to obstruct a communal walkway, clear a fly-tipping hotspot by removing bulky waste and litter, refresh communal gardens and collect several bags of rubbish from surrounding streets.

Honeycomb Group says the initiative forms part of their wider commitment to listening to customers and investing in communities across Staffordshire.

Local residents Sam and June, who have lived in the community for 19 years and recently celebrated 50 years of marriage, welcomed the improvements.

They said: "It's lovely to see people out here supporting the community and looking after us as tenants. It really shows that people care."
