A new stall offering American diner-style milkshakes is opening at a Stoke-on-Trent market, as a local 19-year-old starts her first business.

Stoke-on-Trent teenager, Ellie Meredith, will officially open Sugar Rush Social today (Saturday 1 August) at Longton Market.

The diner will be selling milkshakes – made using Ellie's own recipes - alongside American snacks and soft drinks.

Ellie explained that the decision to open Sugar Rush Social came from her love of American diners.

She said: "I love visiting places like that and I thought there's loads of people in Stoke that also like visiting them.

"So I thought, 'well, I might as well bring it to Stoke'."

To mark the opening, two classic American cars will be parked outside the market for visitors to see.

The diner will feature seating at the bar or offers customers a takeaway option.

Ellie explained that opening a business at 19 is "exciting, but obviously it's a bit nerve wracking as well".

She added: "I've never really done anything like it before, but there are other people my age that are doing a similar thing in the same market.

"It's nice to have other people my age so we can all chat to each other and make sure we're all doing okay. It's nice to have that friendship."

Earlier this week, another teenager - 18-year-old Riley - opened True Grain DIY and Hardware also in Longton Market.

Ellie has been supported by the organisation, Launch It, which helped with planning the business, budgeting and grant applications.

The young entrepreneur said: "They're amazing, I couldn't thank them enough."

She added: "I had an idea, and I wanted to bring it to life and they've helped every single step of the way."

Ellie also thanked Launch It's Gemma in particular for supporting her as she opened the business saying: "She's just been amazing."
