LIVE: M6 closed near Stoke-on-Trent following a vehicle fire

The M6 was closed between J14 (Stafford) and J15 (Stoke-on-Trent), following a vehicle fire this morning.

Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service were at the scene and traffic officers were treating a large diesel spillage.

National Highways are reporting delays of up to 120 minutes.

Road users are advised to follow the hollow triangle diversion symbol on road signs. 

  • At M6 Junction 14 take the exit to A34 northbound.
  • Continue along A34 northbound to it's junction with A500 at Hanford.
  • Take the exit to A500 westbound and continue to M6 junction 15

A spokesperson for Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service said: "We have extinguished a pick-up truck that was on fire on the M6 between Cresswell to Hanchurch this morning (Wednesday 20 November).

"Crews were sent to the scene at about 8am following reports of a vehicle fire between junction 14 and junction 15 of the northbound carriageway. 

"We extinguished the fire by 8.35am and liaised with Highways over recovery of the vehicle."
