Emergency services are currently at the scene of a large fire in Stoke-on-Trent city centre.

A spokesperson for Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service said: "We were called at 6am this morning (Tuesday 15 October) to a fire at a derelict commercial building between Paxton Street and Ephraim Street in Hanley.

"A total of seven crews are currently at the scene along with an aerial ladder platform.

"A cordon has been set up to make sure those in the local area are safe.

"Crews have located the fire between first and second floor of the unit and are actively working at the scene.

"A fire service drone is also currently in use to monitor the fire and its possible spread. People are advised to not use their own drones at this time while ours is in operation.

"No one has been reported injured.

"We're advising the public to avoid the area where possible whilst we work to bring the incident to a safe and swift conclusion. If you live nearby, we recommend closing your windows and doors as a precaution due to heavy amounts of smoke coming from the building."
