A hospital choir which has been hitting the high notes for 15 years has been recognised for their performances and fundraising.

The University Hospitals Choir is made up of over 50 active members including current and retired staff from the Royal Stoke and other University Hospitals of North Midlands' facilities in the region.

The choir has so far raised £15,000 for the UHNM Charity and was presented with UHNM's Chief Executive Award by Dr Simon Constable during their recent annual general meeting.

Dr Constable said: "I wanted to personally say thank you to the choir and its members on behalf of both UHNM and UHNM Charity for all of their incredible performances and fundraising over many years.

"I had an uplifting end to my day attending their AGM as a 'secret guest' to present my award and enjoy a performance.

"A lot of effort goes into their rehearsals, performances and fundraising, and this award recognises all they do with their music and the joy that they bring to so many people."

University Hospitals Choir enjoyed a busy 2024 performing at the Newcastle-under-Lyme Music Festival as well as their annual nursing, Remembrance and Christmas services. They also featured in the recording of the UHNM Charity single, 'Give a Little Bit'.

Judith Lawton, University Hospitals Choir chair said: "We were proud, humble, excited to receive the Chief Executive Award from Dr Constable. We do it for the joy of singing, but it's great to be acknowledged.

"I would like to thank our accompanists down the years, our members, Sue Pantin our Musical Director, our audiences for their support, our families and friends likewise, our committee members, and UHNM for providing rehearsal space."

Dr Constable added: "I was delighted to hear the award certificate will be admired by many, with the choir's members taking it in turns to proudly display it in their homes."
