A historic "decorative drinking fountain" could be reinstalled at a new location in Stoke-on-Trent, if a planning application is given the green light.

Stoke-on-Trent City Council has submitted plans to reinstall a drinking fountain on land off Baker Street, Fenton.

A Statement of Significance says: "As part of the Sutherland and Beardmore Court housing project that was completed in 2022 the drinking fountain that had been gifted to Fenton by William Baker in 1851 was removed from the development site and placed into storage.

The fountain could be installed on vacant land off Baker Street (Image via planning application).

"Over time the fountain has been sited in a number of different locations across Fenton and most recently had been on a grass verge running alongside the City Road.

"Permission is now sought to locate the fountain on Baker Street which falls within the Albert Square Conservation area.

"The fountain is not a listed asset nor falls within a local listing register however, it is felt that the style and age of the fountain would be well suited to the proposed location and sit comfortably within the conservation area."

The full planning application can be viewed here.
