There will be free parking in Stoke-on-Trent on the two Saturdays in the run-up to Christmas.

The measure will apply to all surface-level council-run car parks across all six towns and Meir but on-street parking is not included.

The council hopes that this will give a boost to traders as well as residents and visitors to Stoke-on-Trent.

On Saturday 13 December and Saturday 20 December, shoppers to Burslem, Fenton, Hanley, Longton, Tunstall, Stoke and Meir will benefit from free parking (midnight to midnight) at council-run car parks.

The car parks are:

  • Burslem: Chapel Lane, Market Place, St John Square
  • Tunstall: Butterfield Place, Tower Square, Farndale Street, Hunt Street and Woodland St;
  • Fenton: City Road (accessed from Baker Street)
  • Stoke: Aquinas Street, Copeland Street, Hide Street, Kingsway, South Wolfe Street, Spark Street and Vale Street
  • Hanley: Charles Street, Hinde Street, Hope Street, Meigh Street, Pall Mall and Huntbach Street car parks
  • Longton: Longton Exchange, Chancery Lane and Commerce Street
  • Meir: Weston Road

Cllr Amjid Wazir, cabinet member for city pride, enforcement and sustainability at Stoke-on-Trent City Council, said: "Christmas is fast approaching, and with it comes more footfall into our towns and city - and not just for Christmas shopping.

"Plenty of festive events are happening in town centres, and it is a time when people come together to meet up.

"Take the opportunity to support your local high street this Christmas."
