Four weeks of 'extensive repairs' on a busy road in Newcastle-under-Lyme have been completed, thanks to a £220,000 investment.

The A53 carriageway, at Baldwins Gate, has been completely resurfaced and ironwork and damaged kerbs have been replaced.

David Williams, cabinet member for highways and transport, said: "It is fantastic to see another highways scheme completed so residents can look forward to smoother and safer journeys when travelling along Newcastle Road.

This highways scheme finished on Friday 15 March and cost £220,000 to complete (Staffordshire County Council).

"I would like to thank everyone for their patience and cooperation whilst these works took place."

Staffordshire County Council is investing an extra £50 million in roads, funding 34 road reconstruction schemes, over 450 preventative carriageway maintenance schemes and £2.75 million of work to repair highway drainage.
