A former police officer, who worked in Staffordshire, has admitted improper use of police powers.

Howard Bradley, 27, pleaded guilty to corrupt/improper exercise of police powers and privileges by a constable at Stoke-on-Trent Crown Court today (Tuesday 1 September).

Bradley, of Doveridge, Derbyshire, worked at Burton Police Station.

Staffordshire Police said he was arrested in March 2024 following an investigation by the Anti-Corruption Unit and was "immediately suspended".

The police force says the offence relates to contact he made with a "vulnerable witness" he met in the course of his duties.

Deputy Chief Constable Caroline Marsh said: "Howard Bradley abused the powers and privileges entrusted to him as a police officer and exploited a vulnerable person he encountered through his duties.

"His actions were wholly unacceptable and fell far below the standards of integrity and professionalism that the public rightly expect from us.

"As soon as concerns were raised, our Anti-Corruption Unit launched an investigation and Bradley was immediately suspended. His guilty plea reflects the seriousness of his offending and the strength of the evidence presented against him."

Bradley is due to be sentenced on 5 November at Stoke-on-Trent Crown Court.
