A former Methodist Church in Stoke-on-Trent could become a new care home, if plans are approved by the city council.

A planning application has been submitted which seeks permission to convert Victoria Road Methodist Church, Fenton, into a children's care home.

The facility, which was constructed in 1884, has been vacant for around ten years and last July, plans to turn it into a nine-bedroom HMO were approved.

An Officer's Report about these plans said: "The existing building is currently vacant and this proposed change of use would bring this building back into use, the development is considered a sustainable development".

The new proposals would "provide two children between the age of 5-17 with a home and will be looked after by a maximum of two trained carers 24 hours a day and seven days a week", according to a Planning Statement.

The facility, which was constructed in 1884, has been vacant for around a decade (Nub News).

Only one consultee comment has been submitted so far, from an Air Quality Officer, who said: "I am concerned that the change of use may introduce residents of the proposed childrens home into an area of poor air quality.

"I object to the change of use, unless there is evidence that adequate mechanical ventilation has been installed to the façade fronting Victoria Road."

The full planning application can be viewed here.
