Former Methodist chapel in Stoke-on-Trent to reopen after 20 years
A former Methodist chapel in Hanley, Stoke-on-Trent, is set to reopen after permission was granted by the city council this week.
According to a planning statement, 44 Jasper Street was last used as a place of worship in 2003 and the building has been empty for a number of years.
Although the building has been granted permission for a number of uses - including residential - these were never implemented.
The applicant, Ms Acli, approached the council for permission for a "certificate of lawful development of a place of worship with ancillary community centre activities", back in February and the plans have been approved this week.
A planning statement says: "Though the period of non-use has been significant, it is clear that no other works have been carried out and the current owner's intention has remained to continue the same use class."
On the ground floor, the building will have a main hall, staff room, classroom, kitchen and and office.
On the first floor there will be a multi-use hall, classroom, staff room and toilets.
The council has not yet published an Officer's Report related to this application.
