Five Stoke businesses have been awarded a five-star food hygiene rating so far this year - Nub News investigates which ones they are.

The Food Standard Agency (FSA) Food Hygiene Rating Scheme, is aimed at helping people choose where to eat out or shop for food.

The FSA scheme is in partnership with local authorities in England, Wales and Northern Ireland.

A five-star hygiene rating means 'hygiene standards are very good' for the business (FSA).

It gives businesses a rating from 0 to 5 - displayed at their premises and online.

A five-star hygiene rating means 'hygiene standards are very good' for the business.

All information was taken from the Food Standard Agency website as of 29 January:

Lesley's Lunch Box, Cheadle Road

This popular eatery was awarded a five-star hygiene rating following an inspection on 17 January (Nub News).

Dominos, High Street

Domino's, off High Street in Tunstall, was last inspected on 15 January (Google).

Go Eat, Trentham Road

Go Eat, on Trentham Road, was awarded a five-star hygiene rating following an inspection on 15 January (Nub News).

Coffee Cup, Moorland Road

Coffee Cup, based off Moorland Road in Burslem, was inspected on 8 January (Google).

Say Cheese, Stoke Indoor Market

Say Cheese, based inside Stoke Indoor Market, was last inspected on 24 January (Nub News).

A food safety officer from Stoke-on-Trent City Council inspected the Stoke businesses to check that they were following food hygiene law so that the food was safe to eat.

At all inspections, the officer checked the following three elements:

  • How hygienically the food is handled – how it is prepared, cooked, re-heated, cooled and stored
  • The physical condition of the business –including cleanliness, layout, lighting, ventilation, pest control and other facilities
  • How the business manages ways of keeping food safe, looking at processes, training and systems to ensure good hygiene is maintained. The officer can then assess the level of confidence in standards being maintained in the future.

The five listed Stoke businesses were rated five-star based on all these checks.
