Firefighters tackled a fire at a former church in Stoke-on-Trent yesterday (Thursday 23 July).

Staffordshire Fire and Rescue was called at 8.40pm yesterday (23 July) to Fegg Hayes Road in Fegg Hayes following reports of smoke coming from a former church.

The service said six appliances and an aerial ladder platform attended the scene where crews used two main jets to extinguish the fire.

A spokesperson for Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service said: "Following an investigation, the cause of the fire has been deemed to be deliberate."

Staffordshire Police is now appealing for information following the fire.

A spokesperson for Staffordshire Police said: "We are appealing for information following a fire involving a derelict church in Stoke-on-Trent.

"We were called at 8.55pm yesterday (Thursday 23 July) to Fegg Hayes Road in Fegg Hayes following reports of a fire.

"Officers attended the scene alongside colleagues from Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service."
