Fire crews have been tackling a blaze in one of Stoke-on-Trent's town centres this morning (2 July).

Flames were seen by eyewitnesses raging from the roof of a building on The Strand in Longton just after midnight and Staffordshire Fire and Rescue remains at the scene this morning.

Six fire engines and two aerial ladder platforms were seen surrounding the building as daylight broke. Cadent was also seen on scene.

The flames appear to have now lessened and crews are continuing to dampen down the fire.

Staffordshire Police was also called out to the fire scene early this morning.

The Strand in Longton has been closed by Stoke-on-Trent City Council this morning between the Trentham Road roundabout to the entrance to the B&M car park. A diversion is in place.

The city council says access to B&M in Longton will be impacted and The Strand can be accessed via Uttoxeter Road.

Stoke Nub News has approached Staffordshire Fire and Rescue for a statement.
