A fatal house fire in Stoke-on-Trent has been deemed 'accidental' by firefighters.
Police were called to a house on Glenwood Close, Longton, just before 10.45am on Friday 1 March.
Sadly, a man in his 90s was found unresponsive inside the home and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Station Manager Ben Woodward said: "Our thoughts are with the man's family, friends and neighbours at this tragic and difficult time. A fire investigation has established that the fire was started accidentally.
"Unfortunately, those aged over 80 are at a greater risk of falling victim to accidental fires and can find it difficult to get to safety in time.
"Our prevent and protect teams are keen to visit those most at risk in the local community to help find the hazards in their home and prevent the chances of another tragedy happening."
If you are aged 80 or over or have a relative who is then please contact the service on 0800 0241 999 to request a free safe and well visit.
