Staffordshire Police detectives are carrying out a murder investigation following the death of a man in Newcastle-under-Lyme.

It comes after officers were called to a crash involving a red Ford Fiesta and a grey Audi on Orme Road just after 5pm on Friday (4 September) by West Midlands Ambulance Service.

The police force said that the driver of the Fiesta, a man in his 20s, was found to have "injuries deemed consistent with a stab wound".

The man, 20-year-old Jamie Evans, from Stone, was taken to hospital, where he died.

Staffordshire Police has arrested a 20-year-old man and a 22-year-old man on suspicion of murder, and a 19-year-old man on suspicion of conspiracy to murder.

Yesterday (Sunday 6 September), Jamie's family described him as a wonderful son, loving brother and doting uncle whose warmth, kindness and great sense of humour bought happiness to everyone around him.

They said: "Jamie was so passionate about cricket and fitness, enjoying every opportunity to be active, challenge himself and spend time doing the things he loved. These passions reflected his determination, energy and zest for life.

"Although his life was far too short, the love he gave, the laughter he shared and the memories he created will remain in the hearts of all who knew him.

"He will be deeply loved, profoundly missed and never forgotten.

"We'd like to thank the members of the public who so kindly went to Jamie's aid and tried to help him."

Jamie's family continues to be supported by specially-trained officers.

A 20-year-old man and a 22-year-old man, from the Newcastle-under-Lyme area, have been arrested on suspicion of murder.

In a statement made yesterday, a spokesperson for Staffordshire Police said: "They remain in custody and will continue to be questioned after extra time was granted."

On Saturday (5 September), a 19-year-old man, from the Newcastle-under-Lyme area, was arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to murder.

In yesterday's statement, the police said he also remains in custody.

On Saturday evening, Detective Inspector Gina Pope, from the major investigations department, said: "Our investigation continues to move at pace.

"Officers are still in the area tonight carrying out enquiries to understand more about what happened and to provide reassurance to the local community.

"I want to thank everyone who has been in touch with information and I'd ask anyone who hasn't already contacted us that might be able to help us with our enquiries to come forward."
