The family of a man, whose body was found in Stoke-on-Trent last year, say he will be "missed every day" following an inquest.

The inquest following the death of 42-year-old Darren Green took place yesterday (Thursday 15 October).

It comes after his body was found at Festival Park in Etruria on 2 March last year.

Darren's family said: "Today we have heard the full coroner's findings of Darren.

"Darren was 42. He was born in Wigan, a twin and one of nine children, and he grew up in Australia before coming home to be with his family.

"He loved his reggae, and he was Manchester City through and through.

"Darren's life was not always easy and there were many challenges he faced throughout life including homelessness.

"The family reported him missing in July 2024, and in March 2025 he was found in woodland near Festival Park in Etruria.

"That is why the family has chosen to highlight the homeless crisis within Stoke-on-Trent, and we urge the government and the local councillors to do more for local housing.

"He is missed every day by his mum, Shirley, by his twin, and by his brothers and sisters.

"Today the coroner found that the evidence could not show how Darren died, and as a family we agree with the coroner's findings.

"We may never know exactly what happened to him. What we do know is that he died without a home and alone, to the family's horror.

"We would like to say a heartfelt thank you to the person who found Darren. Because of them, we were able to lay him to rest. Thank you to Richard, Darren's support worker, for everything he did for Darren.

"Thank you to Staffordshire Police, and to the officers and forensic teams who worked at the scene for several days, alongside an anthropologist, a botanist and an archaeologist.

"Thank you to the scientists whose DNA work gave Darren back his name just 24 days after he was found. And thank you to the pathologist, the coroner and the coroner's officers, our family liaison officers, and everyone who has worked so hard to make today's inquest possible.

"We ask that our privacy is respected as we grieve.

"For Darren's spirit lingers – wild, warm, and true – In laughter, in the open air, in skies of City-blue."
