Exercise programme for muscle and joint pain coming to Stoke-on-Trent

A programme offering tailored support for people living with muscle and joint pain in Stoke-on-Trent will be available in the coming weeks.
It's hoped the low-level rehab exercises in the Good Boost programme will help people who are 45 and over to improve their balance, strength and cardiovascular fitness.
Participants complete a short digital assessment, which then creates a personalised programme for their needs and is funded by Sport England.
The aqua sessions will be delivered in the pool at Dimensions Leisure Centre and each 45-minute session is available for £2.50. There will be options for non-swimmers as well, including a "land-based alternative".
More than 20 million people in the UK live with a musculoskeletal-related condition. A pilot study of the programme at King's College Hospital found that 66% of patients using Good Boost while waiting for healthcare showed an improvement in their symptoms.
Councillor Jane Ashworth, leader of Stoke-on-Trent City Council, said: "I am so pleased to see the Good Boost programme coming to our city.
"Muscle and joint pain can have a huge impact on people's daily lives and this is a fantastic way to help people manage their symptoms in a friendly group setting.
"The use of smart technology to personalise the experience means the programme can suit a wide range of people. I encourage all residents who may be struggling with symptoms to find out more and give it a go."
Good Boost started as a community health research project in public swimming pools in Oxford and now delivers rehab programmes across the UK to support people with joint conditions and wider long-term health conditions to self-manage their symptoms.
The full timetable will be available in the coming weeks on the Active Stoke app and website.
