Eight weeks of roadworks have started on Brook Lane, Newcastle (Nub News).
Eight weeks of roadworks have started on Brook Lane, Newcastle (Nub News).

A major highways improvements scheme began in Newcastle town centre yesterday (2 September).

The £600,000 scheme on A519 Brook Lane is expected to take around eight weeks to complete and will include reconstruction and resurfacing of the road, along with repairs and replacement of damaged kerbs and drainage as required.

Temporary lane closures are in operation and a signed diversion is in place.

Simon Tagg, Leader at Newcastle Borough Council, said: "Brook Lane is one of the main roads in and out of the town centre, so it's an important scheme for the borough. 

"These long-awaited improvements will be welcomed by everyone who uses the road and once completed, we can look forward to smoother journeys into town."
