A driver whose car hit speeds of up to 140mph during a pursuit that began on the M6 motorway in Staffordshire has been jailed and banned from driving.

Lewis Moore, 34, from Cheshire, was sentenced to 24 weeks in prison after admitting dangerous driving, failing to stop when required by a constable, driving otherwise than in accordance with a licence and driving without insurance when he appeared at the North Staffordshire Justice Centre on Friday (24 January).

He was also disqualified from driving for 14 months.

Lewis Moore has been sentenced to 24 weeks in prison (Staffordshire Police).

It comes after Moore, behind the wheel of a blue Ford Fiesta ST, refused to stop for officers near junction 14 on the northbound carriageway, on Monday 30 December.

He proceeded to reach speeds of 140mph and used the hard shoulder to undertake vehicles in his way.

The Fiesta eventually came to a stop near junction 16 when it ran out of fuel.

RCT officer, PC Kara Pilarczyk, said: "We are extremely grateful to the public who saw what was happening and gave officers plenty of space to work safely and detain the driver."
