Dozens of council-owned homes across the city are set to be improved to boost energy efficiency and make them look more modern.
Stoke-on-Trent City Council has given the green light to alterations on 64 properties, which will include brick-effect rendering and the installation of canopies to front doors.
Four separate applications, for improvements to homes in Chell, Norton, Fegg Hayes and Tunstall. have been approved in recent days. A planning officers' report said: "The application(s) form part of a larger social housing decarbonisation and energy efficiency scheme across a larger number of properties within different areas of the city and which form part of the Government's Social Housing Decarbonisation Fund Wave 2.2.
"The application sites comprise blocks of town houses circa 1960's in appearance and materials. The existing properties are somewhat tired and dated in their appearance.
"The proposed elevational alterations involve replacing existing windows and doors, including a pitched roof canopy over the front entrance door, and the installation of white rendered external wall insulation along with brickwork quoins on the corners and brick clad side elevations, where applicable. The proposed alterations would not only improve energy efficiency but would also refresh the overall appearance of these dwellings visually by introducing a more modern appearance."
The list of streets where homes are set to be improved is as follows:
- Lowhurst Drive, Chell
- Petersfield Road, Chell
- Farland Grove, Chell
