Plans have come forward to demolish five former sheltered housing sites.

Stoke-on-Trent City Council's cabinet gave the green light in January for the vacant buildings to be bulldozed.

Now prior notification of demolition has been submitted to the authority's planning department for:

  • Lady Bennett Court in Longton
  • Doris Robinson Court in Meir
  • Union Court in Hanley
  • Newhouse Court in Abbey Hulton
  • Lily Gertrude Simister Court in Tunstall

The work to clear the sites is set to cost more than £1.3m, which will be funded from the council's Housing Revenue Account (HRA).

Cabinet members heard earlier this year that the demolition process would take around 12 months for each site. A demolition method statement submitted as part of the applications said normal working hours on site would be between 8am and 6pm Monday to Friday, with no work taking place at weekends or on public holidays.

Approval to decommission the five former sheltered housing schemes was granted by the cabinet in 2018. A report from earlier this year said: "If the existing sheltered schemes are not demolished, they will have a negative impact on the HRA due to ongoing reactive works dealing with security, vandalism and, health and safety implications."
