Firefighters extinguished a 'large fire' at a scrapyard in Newcastle-under-Lyme yesterday (Wednesday 29 April).

Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service was called at 2.30pm to Lime Kiln Lane, Kidsgrove, following reports of a fire.

A spokesperson for Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service said: "Six appliances attended the scene and found a large fire involving one outbuilding and multiple vehicles.

"The fire was extinguished using hose reel jets, including larger main jets, and crews rescued 29 cows from the fire."

One person received treatment at the scene by paramedics after suffering smoke inhalation.

Crews left the scene just before 10pm.

The service has said that an investigation into the cause of the fire will take place "in due course".
