Stoke-on-Trent City Council tips will remain open throughout the festive period, except on Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year's Day.

The two tips (Household Waste and Recycling Centres), in Burslem and Hanford, will close at 3pm on Christmas Eve, Saturday 28 December, Sunday 29 December and New Year's Eve.

Real Christmas trees can be taken to any of the city's tips for recycling once the festivities are over.

The council has also announced changes to the opening times of other services in the city.

Most libraries will close over the Christmas and New Year period, with some operating reduced hours between Christmas and New Year.

Online library services, including eBooks and digital magazines, will remain available through the council's website.

The city's indoor markets will have adjusted opening hours in the run-up to Christmas.

All markets will be open on Monday 23 December and Christmas Eve morning before closing on Christmas Day and Boxing Day.

The markets will then reopen in time for New Year shopping.

Stoke-on-Trent City Council leader, Jane Ashworth, said: "We want to thank everyone who works hard over the festive period to keep essential services running smoothly.

"Residents can check our website or social media for the latest opening hours. We hope everyone enjoys a safe and restful Christmas and New Year."

Full details of all council service changes, including opening hours and emergency contact information, can be found on the council website here.
