A man has been arrested on suspicion of rape after an investigation was launched in Cheadle, Staffordshire.

Police say they received a report that a woman had been raped in the area at around 4am on Friday morning (26 April).

A 53-year-old man, from Cheadle, has been arrested on suspicion of rape.

He has been questioned in custody and has since been released on conditional police bail while enquiries continue.

A spokesperson for Staffordshire Police said: "Anyone with any information that can help us with our investigation is asked to get in touch by calling 101, quoting incident 78 of 26 April, or by messaging us using Live Chat on our website."
