Changes were made to the make-up of Stoke-on-Trent City Council's cabinet yesterday (20 February) following the resignation of Councillor Daniel Jellyman as deputy council leader on Friday (17 February).

In a letter to council leader, Abi Brown, Cllr Jellyman wrote: "I cannot in good conscious remain in my position following the poor decision making that led to the demolition of 'Capo' by Vincent Woropay, on Festival Way.

"Though my achievements in preserving and enhancing our city's heritage will last for many decades to come, my error in not challenging officers' poor advice on this occasion is one of huge regret for me."

Cllr Jellyman remains a ward councillor for Hanford and Trentham and the role of deputy leader will be shared among cabinet members.

  • Cllr Janine Bridges, cabinet member for education and economy.
  • Cllr Carl Edwards, cabinet member for housing and environment.
  • Cllr Dave Evans, cabinet member for children and young people.
  • Cllr Ally Simcock, cabinet member for adult social care and health.
  • Cllr James Smith, cabinet member for infrastructure, heritage and development management.
