A by-election will take place in Stoke-on-Trent on 2 May (Association of Electoral Administrators).

A by-election has officially been called for the Meir North ward in Stoke-on-Trent.

This comes as the city council published an official notice of vacancy earlier this week after Cllr Desiree Elliott, ward councillor for Meir North and cabinet member for education, skills and anti-poverty, has resigned as a councillor on Stoke-on-Trent City Council.

The by-election will now coincide with the Police, Fire and Crime Commissioner elections on Thursday 2 May 2024.

The statement of persons nominated will be published no later than 4pm on Monday 8 April 2024.

Cllr Desiree Elliott, ward councillor for Meir North, resigned last week (Stoke-on-Trent City Council).

Residents in the Meir North electoral ward who have not registered to vote will need to do so by Tuesday 16 April. People can register online, at www.gov.uk/register-to-vote

New applications for a postal vote must be made by 5pm on Wednesday 17 April 2024. Applications to vote by proxy must be made by 5pm on Wednesday 24 April 2024. Details of how to apply to vote by post or proxy and further information can be found at www.stoke.gov.uk/elections

Polling stations will be open from 7am to 10pm on 2 May 2024.
