A new teaching block is planned for a college in Stoke-on-Trent – and an existing building on the site is set to be demolished.

The five storey B-block building at Stoke-on-Trent College's Burslem Campus would be replaced by landscaping if plans put forward to the city council are approved.

A new two and three storey building is proposed, to provide an entrance hub and extension to the site's A-block. A cladded façade would also be added to the stair of the existing A-block building following the demolition of the B-block.

A design and access statement submitted as part of the application said: "The development proposes the construction of a new two and three storey building on the site which faces Moorland Road to create additional student support and teaching facilities to meet the college's brief for their campus vision.

"The new entrance hub houses additional classrooms, science labs and prep rooms which forms an extension of A-Block, hence the staff entrance of the new build is strategically placed within the link between the new build and A-Block allowing easy access to both buildings.

"Students will access the new build via the existing main student entrance of A-Block. As the new build (is) to be seen as an extension of A-block, this also offers more security, control of footfall and visitors into the building."
