A brand-new drive-thru takeaway and restaurant is set to open in Stoke-on-Trent after a planning application was approved by the local council.

Mr David Morrey, of Staffs Fitness Ltd, applied for permission to erect a Burger King restaurant together with drive-thru and takeaway facilities back in February 2023.

On Friday 10 November, plans for the brand-new eatery were approved by Stoke-on-Trent City Council.

The 5,500 square meter application site, on Staffs Industrial Estate in Fenton, has been vacant since the car park closed in 2016.

Plans for a brand-new Burger King restaurant and takeaway were approved on 10 November (Staffs Fitness Ltd).

An application for a two-storey Burger King restaurant on the same site was rejected last year, but the applicant insisted these plans are part of a "reduced scheme".

A Design and Access Statement submitted as part of the application states: "The application site has been vacant for a number of years and is in a prominent position.

"Given the high level of vehicles which pass the site from the A50 into the city centre this is a logical location for this type of unit."

The new eatery will be located on a busy roundabout off King Street in Fenton (Nub News).

An Officer's Report, published by Stoke-on-Trent City Council, said: "Firstly, the development would bring investment into the area alongside employment opportunities (economic).

"Second, it would provide a social hub and environment for communities to use (social); and thirdly it would improve the degrading state of the site which has been subject to adverse misuse by locals.

"The development is therefore considered on balance to integrate successfully into the prevailing urban context when seen from the public realm and be visually appropriate for its intended use.

"This has been the result of an improved and significantly reduced design from that previously refused."
