An arrest was made at the weekend following reports of a man with a knife in Hanley.

Officers were called at 10.50am on Saturday (1 April) by a concerned member of the public reporting that they had seen a man with a knife in Upper Market Square.

Armed officers attended the scene and following an area search, a 30-year-old man, of no fixed address, was arrested on suspicion of affray.

He remains in police custody at this time.

Consequently, there was an increased police presence within the city centre at the weekend to help reassure and support the local community.
