Plans have been put forward for 65 apartments and 7 townhouses at a former Stoke-on-Trent pottery factory site.

Cleveland Works and Atlas Works on College Road in Shelton would be redeveloped under the plans, with a new four-storey apartment block also built on the neighbouring vacant land.

The applicant, Sterling Property Co Ltd, intends to retain a separate parcel of land at the corner of College Road and Cooper Street to provide parking for the proposed development.

The planning statement says: "Sterling Property Co Ltd. is seeking to change the use and re-develop the existing Atlas Works and Cleveland Works buildings to provide new residential dwellings.

"A new block of apartments is also proposed on the vacant land at the south of the site with a new dedicated access from College Road.

"The proposal also includes the introduction of an egress only on to Lawrence Street. The existing car park at the corner of Cooper St is to be retained"

The application adds: "This full planning application seeks planning approval for: The conversion and refurbishment of Atlas Works into 18 no. apartments, 12 no. car parking spaces, communal amenity space and landscaping.

"The conversion and refurbishment of Cleveland Works into 7 no. townhouses, 14 no. car parking spaces, private amenity space and landscaping.

"The construction of a part-5, part-4-storey new build apartment building providing 47 no. apartments, 49 no. car parking spaces, communal and private amenity space and landscaping."

Cleveland Works is understood to have been developed in the mid-to-late 1800s and was occupied by the Cleveland Pottery, while Atlas Works followed in the early 1900s and later became a pottery factory.

Atlas Works is also thought to have undergone more recent renovation under the previous ownership of apprenticeship training provider, PM Training, which acquired the site in 2020.

The plans are yet to be decided by Stoke-on-Trent City Council
