A fundraiser for the Keep Norton Green Green campaign has reached almost £1,500 as consultation meetings continue.
The Norton Green Residents association has raised £1,435 so far in support of their campaign to prevent the proposed building of 3,097 houses in the area surrounding Norton Green.
The two 'broad locations' for development in Norton Green have been allocated in the North and South. In Norton Green South 2,278 new houses are planned and north of the village 819 new properties have been earmarked.
Councillor for Baddeley, Milton and Norton Dave Evans said: "It's fairly incomprehensible to somewhere like Norton Green that someone would roll around with a plan for 3,000 houses.
"The sort of change that is being pushed is just, it's just devastating to people.
"It changes their way of life. It changes who they are."
Around 300 people attended the public consultation with members of the city council's Planning Department on Tuesday 30 September hosted in a barn at Heakley Hall Farm, a location which Cllr Evans claims proves the lack of infrastructure in the area.
Norton Green Residents Association have been actively campaigning against the draft plan, which will be under consultation until 20 October. The association has also installed banners on either side of the village
The Residents Association has also drafted an objection letter for local residents which stresses what it views as the negative environmental impact of building on the greenbelt, as well as the strain that additional housing could place on local schools and GP practices.
Cllr Evans particularly stressed the problem of school placements explaining that some secondary school students in Norton Green live up to a three to four mile walk from their school.
Norton Green Residents Association is hosting further drop-in sessions at Heakley Hall Farm on 18 October to help residents voice their opinions to the council before the end of the consultation period.
