A stretch of the A34 is closed in Trent Vale this morning as emergency services respond to a fire.

Five fire crews have been tackling the blaze at Furama Palace Asian restaurant and cafe, on Newcastle Road, through the early hours.

Nearby residents say they were woken up to plumes of smoke in the night.

Staffordshire Police is also at the scene and people are being advised to avoid the area.

A stretch of the A34 in Trent Vale is closed between the junction for London Road and the junction for Crosby Road.

A spokesperson for Staffordshire Fire and Rescue said: "We have five crews in attendance on the Newcastle Road, Trent Vale, Stoke-On-Trent where they have responded to a building fire. Please avoid the area, where possible."

The road has since reopened.
