Start your fostering journey this week in Stoke-on-Trent

Beacon Fostering is encouraging residents across the city to consider becoming foster carers as the UK faces a shortage of fostering households, including in Stoke-on-Trent.
Currently, there is an estimated shortfall of 6,500 foster homes nationwide and to help raise awareness and support Foster Care Fortnight, which runs from today until 25 May, Beacon Fostering will be attending the Stoke-on-Trent Bridge Job Fair this Wednesday, 14 May, from 10am to 1pm at the Bet365 Stadium.
The fostering agency will host a stand at the event, where attendees can meet with the foster carer recruitment team and find out more about the process and benefits of fostering.
The national awareness campaign, led by The Fostering Network, is focusing this year on the theme of The Power of Relationships — a message that resonates with Beacon Fostering's strong family ethos.

Beacon Fostering is actively recruiting new carers across Stoke-on-Trent, Cheshire and South Manchester, with established locations in Manchester, Liverpool and Preston.
The agency provides comprehensive support to carers, including one-to-one social work visits, therapeutic services, and a mix of face-to-face and virtual training.
To become a foster carer, the key requirements include:
- Being aged 21 or over.
- Having a spare room.
- Being able to dedicate time and commitment to a child or young person.
- Having a good support network.
Foster carers receive weekly payments of up to £750 per child, covering the young person's needs such as food, school travel, hobbies, and personal items. The remainder is retained by the carer as a "reward element." Many may not know that most fostering income is tax-free.
