Local college students deliver 'outstanding performance' at the AoC National Championships

Students from Newcastle and Stafford Colleges Group (NSCG) delivered an "outstanding performance" at this year's AoC (Association of Colleges) National Championships, competing against some of the best college athletes from across the country.
The prestigious event, which took place from 17 to 19 April at the University of Nottingham, brought together over 1,500 competitors from colleges nationwide.
An impressive 65 NSCG students selected to represent the Group across a wide range of sports.
NSCG explained that their volleyball teams led the way with "exceptional success".
Dave Sutton, Manager of the NSCG Academy of Sport said: "It was an amazing achievement by all of our students to qualify for the AOC Sport National Championships by winning their particular sport at the Regional Competition.
"65 students are the most that we have taken to a National Championship and their performances against the best of the best was outstanding, culminating in the Ladies volleyball team winning the gold medal.
"We are incredibly proud of all the students; they were a credit to NSCG."

NSCG explained that their volleyball teams led the way with "exceptional success".
The Women's team were crowned national champions, securing a "fantastic" gold medal, while the Men's team also impressed with a strong performance to take home silver.
There were further podium finishes in athletics, with Jack Hadley achieving a bronze medal in the endurance run, alongside a silver medal performance in the girls' endurance event.
Team sports also saw notable achievements throughout the competition. The hockey team delivered a standout moment by defeating the highly regarded Loughborough College, underlining the strength of NSCG sport on a national stage.
Meanwhile, the rugby team celebrated a milestone achievement, winning their first ever game at the National Championships — a significant step forward as both rugby and hockey continue to establish themselves in the competition.
Across the tournament, NSCG teams achieved strong overall placings, including:
- Girls' Football – sixth place
- Hockey – fifth place
- Rugby – seventh place
- Mixed Badminton – seventh place
A spokesperson for NSCG said: "These results reflect not only the talent of NSCG's student athletes but also their dedication, teamwork and commitment to excellence both on and off the field.
"The AoC National Championships remain a highlight of the college sporting calendar, providing students with the opportunity to compete at an elite level, develop their skills and create lasting memories. "
