A new kind of pickup is on its way. Meet the BYD SHARK DMO - a powerful plug-in hybrid designed to bring together everyday practicality, electrified performance and genuine off-road capability.

Coming soon to our motors partner BYD Stoke, the SHARK DMO is set to bring something completely different to BYD's growing UK range.

Built around BYD's innovative DMO (Dual Mode Off-Road) Super Hybrid platform, the SHARK has been designed to handle everything from everyday journeys to more demanding adventures, combining a turbocharged petrol engine with electric motors and BYD's Blade Battery technology.

Super Hybrid performance

At the heart of the SHARK DMO is a 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine working alongside two electric motors and a Blade Battery.

Together, the system produces an impressive 436 PS and 650 Nm of torque, with all-wheel drive providing power to all four wheels. That translates into a 0–62 mph time of just 5.7 seconds — remarkable performance for a pickup of this size.

But performance isn't the only focus. The SHARK is designed to make use of electric power for everyday driving, with a pure-electric WLTP range of up to 55 miles and a combined range of up to 419 miles according to BYD's UK specification.

Built for more than the road

The SHARK isn't simply a pickup with a hybrid powertrain. Its DMO platform has been developed specifically with off-road capability in mind.

Double-wishbone suspension front and rear, all-wheel drive and selectable terrain modes help the SHARK tackle changing surfaces, while its 230mm of ground clearance and underbody protection add further capability when the road ends.

For those who need to tow, the SHARK can handle up to 2,500kg braked, making it suitable for a wide variety of leisure and working requirements.

Practicality comes as standard

The SHARK combines its rugged exterior with a spacious five-seat cabin, while the rear load bed provides 1,200 litres of capacity.

There's also Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) technology, allowing the vehicle's battery to provide power to external equipment. With up to 6kW of V2L output, the SHARK can act as a mobile power source when you're away from home — whether that's at a campsite, on a work site or enjoying a weekend outdoors.

Technology meets adventure

Inside, the SHARK is every bit as technology-focused as you'd expect from BYD.

A large 15.6-inch rotating touchscreen takes centre stage, alongside a 10.25-inch digital instrument display. Depending on specification, features include heated and ventilated front seats, a head-up display, wireless phone charging and a premium Dynaudio sound system.

The SHARK also comes equipped with a comprehensive range of driver assistance and safety technologies, including adaptive cruise control, blind-spot detection, front and rear cross-traffic alert and braking, lane departure assistance and collision warning systems.

Seven airbags are also included in the UK specification.

A pickup with a difference

The arrival of the SHARK DMO marks another significant step for BYD as the brand continues to expand beyond its established electric car and SUV range.

It offers something different: the practicality and capability expected from a pickup, combined with the flexibility of a plug-in hybrid powertrain and the technology BYD has become known for.
