We are looking for a motivated team member to join the research team led by Dr Roberto Galizi at Keele University.
The successful candidate will contribute to an exciting project in collaboration with Virginia Tech aimed to develop new gene editing technologies, including the use of CRISPR tools, to combat the spread of vector borne diseases such as malaria.
The post holder will provide technical support towards the timely implementation of the experimental procedures including mosquito rearing and genetic engineering via embryo microinjections (including the use of CRISPR/Cas tools) and their genetic and phenotypic characterisation in the laboratory.
The successful candidate will hold either a HNC or NVQ Level 4 qualification or have equivalent experience.
Experience of working in a laboratory setting is desirable along with theoretical and practical knowledge of standard molecular biology techniques such as molecular cloning, DNA/RNA/Protein extraction/purification, PCR/qPCR and gel electrophoresis.
Previous work experience using insects, and/or genetic engineering technologies in insects or model organisms and practical knowledge of CRISPR is also desirable.
